SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — In one evening, two vehicles hit UTA trains in Salt Lake City and fled. Both incidents were minor, but are raising the alarm for drivers to remain vigilant around trains.

Both have caused delays, which riders can stay updated on through X or the UTA App .

According to Gavin Gustafson, a spokesperson with the UTA, in the first incident, a vehicle struck a Utah Transit Authority train in Salt Lake City around 1100 East and 500 S and then fled the area.

Gustafson said it was a minor fender bender to the car. There was no damage to the train and no injuries to those on the train.

He said UTA is reviewing footage from this incident to try and find the vehicle.

Gustafson said there was another incident this evening where a vehicle hit a train and took off after making an illegal left turn. This happened near the Gallivan Plaza Station around 6:15 p.m. There were no injuries reported in this incident either.

Gustafson said the train clipped the car’s back bumper. The vehicle is described to be a white Nissan sedan last seen eastbound on 200 S.

He said UTA is asking anyone who may have information related to either of these incidents to call UTA police at 801-287-3937.

With two similar incidents within 20 minutes of each other, Gustafson reiterated the importance of safety around trains.

“Please be extra vigilant around trains and rails. Trains do not swerve. They do not stop as quickly as cars. Please pay extra close attention to the sounds, horns, bells, flashing lights, barricades, and red lights. Please be extra aware around trains,” he said.

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post with more information as it becomes available.
