SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Salt Lake City Police are conducting an effort to reduce noise coming from large parties in Salt Lake City’s East Central neighborhood and reminding the community about the rules and regulations regarding noise in the city.

Each year during football season, police reportedly receive a number of calls regarding large parties, noise complaints, illegal parking, underage drinking, fights, and public indecency.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, SLCPD officers worked the area between 400 – 600 South and 1000 East – 1300 East. They contacted “several large parties” both before 10 p.m. and after 10 p.m. to remind them about the city’s noise ordinance. Body-worn camera footage of one of the interactions can be seen here .

“Each group officers contacted was very respectful,” a press release from SLCPD states. “Generally, as they relate to parties … the City’s noise regulation prohibits loud noise between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. The regulation also sets limits for extremely loud noise during daytime hours.”

If you are hosting a party, gathering, or event in the city, you may be liable for service fees each time a police officer responds to a call for service to deal with a party with violations.

“Any services fee may be in addition to such other costs and penalties,” SLCPD stated.

Officers reportedly said they received positive feedback from neighbors who have been impacted by the parties.

Community members should call 911 to report emergency situations, including:

    • Fights in progress
    • People with weapons
    • Criminal mischief
    • Drug use or underage drinking
    • Blockage of public right-of-way
    • Medical emergencies like drug overdose or alcohol poisoning

For non-emergency situations, such as a loud house party without additional risks, community members should call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
