Beaver River seeded second in Class C as sectional girls’ volleyball brackets are released

SYRACUSE, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Section III announced the girls’ volleyball sectional brackets on Monday, February 5, and Beaver River was the highest Frontier League seed in Calls C. The tournament –which will start with play-in games on Tuesday, February 6 — will culminate in approximately two weeks at Watertown High School on Saturday, February 17.

Several teams will be beginning the road to Watertown on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Beavers, guided by longtime coach Gene Sundberg, are looking to return to the sectional final once again. Beaver River was beaten by top-seeded Mount Markham in last season’s final.

Mount Markham only dropped six sets all season, including streaks of six and five straight-set wins. The Mustangs will face the winner of Wednesday night’s game between eighth-seeded Sauquoit Valley and ninth-seeded South Lewis.

In Class A, Carthage is the fifth seed and will travel to No. 4 East Syracuse-Minoa. Watertown is the eighth seed and will host No. 9 Utica Proctor on Wednesday. The winner will travel to top-seeded New Hartford in Class B.

Fourth-seeded Clinton, who will host Lowville on Thursday in Class B. Ninth-seeded Oneida will travel to eighth-seeded General Brown, while 2-16 VVS will travel to sixth-seeded South Jefferson , who finished their season at 6-8 with a loss to the Lions.

In Class D, defending champion Sandy Creek is the No. 6 seed will host Waterville on Wednesday. The winner will have a matchup with the Fabius-Pompey Falcons on Thursday.
