    WCSD Ready, Set, Go! Meetings get Kindergarteners ready for the Fall

    WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – The Watertown City School District will be holding Kindergarten Orientation — or Ready, Set, Go! Meetings — for parents in each primary building where teachers and administrators will talk about the Kindergarten program and staff members will be available to answer questions.

    How to enroll your student in Kindergarten ?

    1. Call the elementary school in your zone. If you are unaware of which school your child will attend in the fall, call Central Registration at 315-661-8338 to determine the correct school.
    2. Parents can sign up for a specific registration date at the Ready, Set, Go! Events, down below.
    3. A letter will be mailed home from each elementary school to parents of eligible children prior to registration, indicating the confirmed date and time of the registration appointment.

    Important things to know :

    Parents will be required to bring their children with them at registration time along with proof of residency, the child’s birth certificate, proof of physical and immunization records. Kindergarten entrants must be five years old on or before December 1, 2024. and they must meet the immunization requirements:

    Kindergarten and Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5:

    • 5 doses or 4 doses of Diphtheria and Tetanus toxoid-containing vaccine and Pertussis vaccine –DtaP, DTP, Tdap and Td—3 doses if 7 years or older and the series was started at 1 year or older;
    • 4 doses or 3 doses of Polio vaccine – IPV and OPV;
    • 2 doses of Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine – MMR;
    • 3 doses or 2 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine; and
    • 2 doses of Varicella – Chickenpox – vaccine.

    Most private insurance plans are required to cover recommended vaccines at no cost, parents or guardians of children who do not have health insurance or have a plan with out-of-pocket costs that are not affordable can still get vaccinated. The Vaccines for Children Program provides all recommended vaccines at no cost for children under the age of 19 who qualify.
