    Watertown, Massena received funding for water projects

    WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – New York Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the North Country will receive $16,738,000 in funding from the soon-to-pass bipartisan spending package for Fiscal Year 2024.

    Two of these projects include water improvement projects for Watertown and Massena. The Watertown project will get $1 million and be used to preserve and improve the city’s water treatment plant, bringing improvements to drinking water quality and promoting water conservation.

    Water issues still a hot topic in Watertown

    Funding for Massena’s project will receive nearly $1.9 million be used to construct a new water district to serve residents that currently have issues with inadequate or unreliable private wells.

    This funding will provide vital resources for important local projects that address various issues, ranging from upgrading aging water infrastructure to expanding child care, improving emergency response times, and helping to close the digital divide. The bipartisan spending package for FY2024 is expected to pass Congress and be signed into law this week.
