    JCC’s home-based childcare training free to Jefferson; Lewis residents

    Deadline to enroll is April 22 .

    WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Jefferson Community College’s home-based childcare training program will be offered for free to residents of Jefferson and Lewis counties, deadline to enroll is April 22. Upon completion, participants will be ready to start their own home-based childcare business.

    JCC’s program participants will receive business and education training and assistance with filing for NYS registration and licensing. Training will include 38 hours of non-credit business and health/safety requirements that may be completed on campus and online.

    JCC’s Program Benefits:

    • Become a Home-Based Child Care Provider within four months;
    • Free training: Health & Safety, Red Cross, Small Business Workshops, & Family Policy Handbook workshop;
    • Program Coordinator assigned to provide individual mentorship through the program;
    • SBDC Advisor assigned for one-on-one business counseling;
    • CAPC Regulator assigned to provide guidance on NYSOCFS approval;
    • Access free supplies to help you start your new business; and
    • Access to a Child Care Providers closed Facebook group.
    Jefferson Community College’s new president shifts focus to address falling enrollment

    The pilot program for the home-based childcare training began in June 2021 to address the shortage of childcare options in the North Country. The program has facilitated 64 childcare slots locally. This initiative was replicated in February 2023 by neighboring areas including a partnership between JCC, Oswego County, Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County, the Small Business Development Center and Oswego County Workforce New York.

    You can enroll online or call the JCC Workforce Solutions office at 315-786-2233. There will be a mandatory kick-off meeting for program registrants at JCC on April 25.
