WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) — The Watertown City School District has announced the installation of a hygiene vending machine at Watertown High School, a project lead by junior student, Connor Brown, aiming to address hygiene poverty among students in Jefferson County.

Over the past eight months, Brown has actively worked with local and school officials to bring this project to completion. Recognizing the challenges faced by students who may be less fortunate, Brown saw an opportunity to provide essential hygiene products in a convenient and discreet manner.

The hygiene vending machine will offer students access to essential hygiene items free of charge. Partnering with Planned Parenthood of Jefferson County, Brown has secured materials for the machine at no cost. The machine will be stocked by WHS National Honor Society students.

Brown plans to expand this initiative by installing additional hygiene vending machines at Case Middle School and the Wiley Intermediate School in the upcoming school year, further supporting students in maintaining personal hygiene and well-being.

Watertown’s new water treatment facility will likely cost over $60M

We are immensely proud of Connor Brown’s initiative and leadership in spearheading the installation of the hygiene vending machine at Watertown High School. This innovative project not only addresses the immediate needs of our students but also underscores the importance of compassion and community support within our district. We are grateful for Connor’s dedication to ensuring that all students have access to essential hygiene products, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative on our school community .”

Dr. Larry C. Schmiegel, Superintendent of Schools.

Parents and students with inquiries about the hygiene vending machine can contact the Watertown High School main office at 315-785-3810.

I am thinking.... what the school really needs is... TEACHERS! Do people even know that just in the high school, 10+ teachers are out every day, and there are no substitutes. The kids just hang out in the auditorium.
