WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – The Jefferson-Lewis BOCES program is offering a unique opportunity for anyone mulling over the idea of owning a modular home.

The Career & Technical Education Department is inviting any interested individuals in having a modular home constructed to connect with the Carpentry programs located in both Jefferson and Lewis Counties.

This educational opportunity is part of the most hands-on learning experiences for aspiring builders. Jefferson-Lewis BOCES allows students in 11th and 12th grades a chance to construct a modular home from the ground up.

Individual projects will take place at both the Bohlen Technical Center in Watertown and the Sackett Technical Center in Glenfield. Students will hone their skills in real-world scenarios, benefiting both their education and your home buying experience by taking part in this project.

Those considering this chance to own a modular home built by the next generation of expert carpenters must meet specific requirements. Prospective buyers are responsible for designing the detailed blueprints of their desired home in conjunction with an engineer hired by the BOCES for this purpose.

Also, all costs related to materials and supplies will be shouldered by the buyer, ensuring that the design and quality meet their individual needs and standards. Once the construction is completed on the BOCES campus, the buyer must also arrange for transportation to relocate the modular home to its permanent location.

Planning is already underway as both the locations are actively seeking inquiries, laying the groundwork for construction to commence with the onset of the upcoming 2024-25 school year this September.

Anyone interested is encouraged to reach out to the Career & Technical Education offices at the respective technical centers to express interest or gather more information. The Bohlen Technical Center is available at 315-779-7200, while inquiries for the Sackett Technical Center can be made at 315-377-7300.
