    Watertown American Legion Post 61 to commemorate D-Day anniversary

    The Watertown American Legion Post 61 will host a number of events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day on Thursday, June 6.

    These events will take place at the legion post at 138 Sterling Street.

    Newspapers and the D-Day Invasion: A pivotal role in WWII reporting

    Here’s a list of events that will occur on that date:

    • 12:15 p.m.: Opening Ceremony at open house at post
    • 12:15-6 p.m.: All-afternoon open house display of World War II uniforms, equipment, and memorabilia provided by the preeminent local re-enactor John Hart.
    • 12:30–1:30 p.m.: Free old mess hall lunch while it lasts
    • 12:30–6 p.m. Continuous showing of D-Day related movies and documentaries aimed at everyone regardless of level of current knowledge
    • 6 p.m.: Closing ceremony with ceremonial toast with Calvados, the Apple Brandy synonymous with Normandy
    • 5–7 p.m. Regular post steak and special at the Bar

    The post invites the public to join them in honoring the Allied soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who served and died in the cause of liberty and freedom.
