Water main break on Franklin Street affecting City of Watertown

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – A water main break on Franklin Street in the City of Watertown is affecting several areas of the city.

According to a press release from the city, the Water Distribution Department is working to rectify this as soon as possible.

An update just before 4 p.m. said that crews are still trying to fix the problem. If anyone experiences discolored water following the repair to the water main, run all cold-water faucets for two to three minutes, shut the water off, allow the water to settle for about 15 minutes and run the water again for two to three minutes.

If the water does not run clear, repeat this process. Do not run the hot water faucets until the cold water runs clear. If the water does not become clear after repeating this process multiple times, contact us at 315-785-7757.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Jefferson County until 8 p.m. the city is dealing with near-record high temperatures.

Watertown dealt with a water main break in October of 2023 that caused numerous problems for the city. A number of organizations and school had to close down due to the break that caused issues for a number of days.
