LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The dog rescued from a short leash tied to a table at Schiller Park has gotten quite the promotion in the last week. He’s now sharing an office with the executive director of HumaneCNY.

That’s where Max has been fed and cared for ever since his surrendering owner, later arrested, left him alone overnight . He was found the next morning on Thursday, August 1, hungry, thirsty, nearly lifeless and dying.

‘I am a good boy:’ Note left with 17-year-old abandoned dog tied to park table

The shelters phones and inboxes have been flooded since.

“We just got an email from Ken in California,” read Executive Director Maureen Davison. “He said, ‘I just sent another $500 for Max. Please take the best care possible of him.'”

Davison said the shelter’s collected tens of thousands of dollars that can likely help care for Max the rest of his life.

Davison said, “A lot of people have also said, ‘If you’ve got enough for Max, use it for the next Max.’ There are so many just like him. We get calls for every day.”

Based on information from people familiar with the dog, the shelter is revising Max’s guessed age to 13 years old. He was left with a note that said he was 17.

Davison thinks he’ll be healthy enough for a foster family or adoption soon. Potential owners have already expressed interest.

HumaneCNY is always in need of financial donations or donations of dry dog or cat food.
