FAYETTEVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Do you have a pool in your backyard that you never use? Or maybe a tennis court that goes untouched all summer? Well, with Swimply, you can rent out your underutilized facilities by the hour.

“We’re a marketplace that connects owners of these underutilized home amenities with people seeking to gather and engage in fun celebration health and wellness celebration at these amenities,” the CEO of Swimply, Derek Callow said.

Swimply has been around since 2019. Currently, they have over 12,000 listings in Canada, Australia and the United States… including right here in Central New York.

When Taylor Duell and his wife bought their Fayetteville home, they were unsure about the inground pool that came along with it.

“We don’t have children which I think is where most people get their money’s worth with having a pool,” Duell explained. “So, we were like, we can only have so many gatherings with our friends, how else can we share our yard with people?”

    The answer: Swimply.

“We can make a little money on the side and share our yard with people. We would go weeks or sometimes even a month without really using the pool or backyard, but it’s such a great space we wanted to be able to share it with people,” Duell said.

Swimply provides privacy for people that they often can’t get while at a public facility.

“It’s the lounge chairs to themselves, the gas grill if they want to cook out and you’re not dealing with other people’s music. It’s just private,” Duell explained.

Plus, Swimply caters to the host with things like how many people can be at the facility and what items can be available.

“We don’t want real large gatherings, so that’s where Swimply’s really nice. If I wanted to limit it to two guests, I could do that. People couldn’t book for more than two people.”

Swimply offers more than just pools. On the app, there are tennis courts, saunas, recording studios, and private gyms available.

The company continues to grow, with plans to expand to smaller cities and suburban communities to make facilities more accessible for those who live there.

“I was talking to a host, he’s got a pickleball court,” Callow said, explaining where he sees Swimply going in the future. “$150 a month for access a maximum of two hours a day five days a week. So, suddenly it’s an alternative to a gym membership,” Callow said.
