ITHACA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Ithaca police were alerted to an assault that happened on Saturday, August 17, around 2:30 p.m. at the 100 block of Cascadilla Street.

The suspect, described as a white male in his mid-20s to early 30s with black, curly hair, wearing black sweatpants and a light-colored t-shirt, allegedly got off a bicycle and physically assaulted the victim, Ithaca police said.

During the assault, the suspect also allegedly made derogatory comments about the victim’s gender identity, leading police to investigate this incident as a hate crime.

The victim and the assailant do not know each other, according to police.

Anyone with information about this case should call the Ithaca police tip line at 607-330-0000
