SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — At dawn, a mother-daughter duo — and a few others — headed to the New York State Fairgrounds to claim their spot in line for a concert at dusk.

Mother Karen Race and daughter Brynn Race closed up their Brewerton business for the day so they could camp out for the 8 p.m. Megan Moroney concert at Suburban Park on Monday, August 26.

Although this is Brynn’s first time seeing Megan, her mom has been taking her to concerts at the Fair for years.

“I’ve been doing it since Brynn was maybe 6, her first time,” said Karen.

The group of seven ladies had blankets laid out, butting up against the gate. They were making posters or trying to keep cool as they waited. Although the gates to the Fair open at 9 a.m., the gates to Suburban Park open at 5 p.m.

Alongside the pair was Karen’s granddaughter, Myla. She explained that she was very excited to see Megan.

Karen said that when they got in line, the group of women they were with came right up behind them. Inevitably, they all befriended each other, which worked out for when one needed another to hold down the forth if someone needed a break.

By the time NewsChannel 9 had met up with the Race’s and the others, there were dozens of people dressed up and in line.

“I just bought a pair of boots, that’d be cool. I am hoping she will sign them,” said Brynn. Her mother seconded that.

One girl in the group said this will be her second time seeing the “Tenessee Orange ” singer. Previously, she saw her perform at Darien Lake and was able to meet her. Even the first time, she said she blacked out and couldn’t remember much.

The Fair explained that they consider a ton of factors when they look into booking future performers.

Sean Farnsworth, director of public information, explained they look at feedback from fairgoers provided through social media, word-of-mouth, and surveys, which helps to ensure that selected acts are those that fairgoers are most interested in seeing.

Not to mention, all Suburban Park and Chevy Court concerts that are scheduled during the Fair’s 13-day run cost the price of admission, which is less than $10.

“I would pay a lot more to see her, so paying $8 to see her is a dream come true,” said an attending fan, Hallory McBride.

McBride, who will go to the show with her friend Robyn, has also seen Brothers Osborne, Riley Green and Tai Verdes at the Fair in 2021 and 2022.

“I’ve seen The Fray and Tyler Hubbard [in 2023] and then Warren Zeiders on Thursday,” she continued.

Her friend Robyn came upstate from Long Island to visit and catch the concert.

As for the future, Farnsworth said that the Fair is already looking into booking acts for next year’s lineup.
