    NNY high school football preview: September 6-7, 2024

    The new high school football season upon us and north country teams are looking to make that trip to the JMA Wireless Dome for state play.

    Here’s a look at schedule for teams in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties this upcoming weekend.

    Friday, September 6

    Horseheads at Watertown, 6:30 p.m.: The Cyclones get to christen their new turf field against the Section 4 Blue Raiders. Horseheads went 7-4 last season while Watertown is looking to improve on a 2-5 season.

    Carthage at Central Square, 6:30 p.m.: The Comets and RedHawks do battle down in Oswego County. Carthage is coming off 4-5 campaign and a Section 3 Class B playoff appearance. Central Square finished 6-2 in Class A2 last season.

    Lowville at Beaver River, 7 p.m.: It’s all Lewis County affair as the Beavers host the Red Raiders. Lowville went 6-3 and reached the Class C semifinals in Section 3. Beaver River went 6-4 and also made the semifinals, but in Class D.

    Malone at General Brown, 7 p.m.: Two north country teams do battle in Dexter when the Huskies make the long trek to take on the Lions. Malone carded a 3-6 record last campaign while General Brown was 7-3 and made the Class C semifinal in the Dome.

    Saranac Central at OFA, 7:30 p.m.: It’s a Section 7 vs Section 10 matchup in Ogdensburg. The Spartans went 8-2 last season while the Blue Devils is coming off a 7-3 campaign and Section 10 Class B crown.

    Saturday, September 7

    Holland Patent at St. Lawrence, noon.: The Golden Knights make the journey to Brasher Falls to battle the Larries Saturday afternoon. Holland Patent is coming off a 3-6 season while St. Lawrence looks to get in the win column after an 0-8 campaign.

    Massena at Saranac Lake, 1:30 p.m.: It’s another Section 10 vs Section 7 matchup to start the season. The Red Raiders went 6-3 last season while the Red Storm is trying to improve on a 1-8 2023 campaign.

    Potsdam at Canton, 1:30 p.m.: It’s the first of two scheduled meetings between the Route 11 rivals. The Sandstoners made the Class B final in Section 10 and went 6-5. The Golden Bears went 2-6 last season.

    Beekmantown at Indian River, 4 p.m.: This game between the Eagles and newly-minted Wolves is a rematch of a wild 57-33 shootout last season. Beekmantown is looking to build off a 6-4 season while Indian River went 11-1 and made the state Class B playoffs.

    Bye week: South Jefferson, Gouverneur, Sandy Creek, South Lewis, Tupper Lake
