When you go to COVIDtests.gov , you’ll see the following:

U.S. households will be eligible to order 4 free COVID-19 tests at COVIDTests.gov . The COVID-19 Tests will detect current COVID-19 variants and can be used through the end of the year .

An exact date on when you can order the free tests was not provided.

At a recent media briefing, Dawn O’Connell, the assistant secretary for preparedness and response for the Department of Health and Human Services, said this will be the seventh round in the last three years families can order the tests, free of charge.

“So far, more than 900 million at home tests have been distributed through the COVIDtests.gov program in partnership with our colleagues at the U.S. Postal Service,” O’Connell said.

It’s not exactly clear how many tests will be available for this latest round.

At the same media briefing in late August, David Boucher, the director of infection disease preparedness and response, said the department doesn’t have to worry about inventory issues.

“Typically in our prior rounds for COVIDtests.Gov, we ranged anywhere from about 50 to 75 million tests. We have quite a bit of supply in the Strategic National Stockpile available to support that,” said Boucher.
