1000 Islands Charity Poker Run gifts $252K to Make-A-Wish Central New York

CENTRAL NEW YORK (WWTI) – Make-A-Wish Central New York has announced a $252,000 gift from the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run, which represents the largest single gift the Poker Run has made to the organization and that the organization has ever received, solidifying their shared mission of compassion and support.

The 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run, held annually in the 1000 Islands region, brings together boating enthusiasts, sponsors and donors looking to give back. This year’s contribution will directly support the wish-granting process across 15 counties in Central New York, bringing hope, strength and joy to children battling critical illnesses.

Since its inception, Make-A-Wish Central New York has granted almost 2,500 wishes, creating moments of hope and happiness for critically ill children. Each wish is a unique and personal experience, from meeting a favorite celebrity to traveling to a dream destination. With the support of the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run, many children will, in the coming months, see their wishes granted.

The partnership between Make-A-Wish Central New York and the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run has grown over the years, with both organizations committed to enhancing the lives of children in need. Bobby Cantwell, President of the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run board said, “ Our team works hard all year to be able to put on this great event to raise money for such a phenomenal organization, but our work pales in comparison to what these kids go through every day. Being able to give them hope for better days by granting their wishes, is the best ‘thank you’ we ever could receive .”

Since 2018, the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run has donated $668,000 to Make-A-Wish Central New York. The 2025 event will be held July 17 to 19.
