    Route 5 back open in Oneida after gas leak

    UPDATE: The gas was turned off and Route 5 has been reopened, according to Samantha Field, a public information officer for Madison County.

    ONEIDA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Route 5 (Genesee Street) is closed in Oneida between Upper Lenox Avenue and North Court Street due to a natural gas leak, the Oneida Police Department announced on Facebook .

    Police are asking people to avoid the area.

    A construction working to demolish a building hit a gas line, causing the leak, said Samantha Field, a public information officer for Madison County.
