    Jefferson Co. man arrested after allegedly fleeing police last summer

    CLAYTON, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 38-year-old Clayton man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing on foot after being pulled over for drunk driving last summer.

    Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies allege that Caylen Churchill was stopped on July 2, 2023 on State Route 12 in the town of Clayton. Churchill allegedly passed vehicles on a double-solid line which forced the off the road.

    Authorities stated that Churchill fled on foot after he was handcuffed. He was arrested for the incident on Friday, September 6.

    Churchill was charged with the following:

    • Driving while intoxicated
    • Third-degree escape
    • Resisting arrest
    • Reckless driving
    • Third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle

    He was arraigned CAP Court and released to appear at a later date.
