TOWN OF INLET, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — The New York State Department of Transportation has announced that a lane reduction will begin in the next two weeks in the town of Inlet.

The DOT announced on Friday, September 13 that State Route 28 in the town of Inlet will be reduced to one lane beginning on Thursday, September 26. This lane reduction will be between Park Road and Jasper Day Trail near Fifth Lake. Alternating lanes of traffic will be in effect during that time, controlled by temporary signals.

The lane reduction is to facilitate the installation of a new retaining wall. According to the DOT, the job is expected to take four weeks, weather permitting.

Motorists will encounter a temporary three-color traffic signal and should prepare to stop. The sidewalk will be closed in the area as well, but the DOT has said that accommodations will be made for pedestrians.

Motorists are also urged to slow down and use caution in work zones, as fines are doubled for speeding in work zones. Two or more convictions may result in the suspension of the offender’s license.

For more information on this or any other work around the Mohawk Valley, motorists are encouraged to call 511, visit the website at 511ny.org or download the free 511NY mobile app.
