    NNY high school football preview: September 19-21, 2024

    We’re into week three of high school football across Northern New York.

    All teams have at least one game under their belt as we move towards the start of fall.

    Here’s a look at the local high school football schedule for the week ahead.

    Thursday, September 19

    Watertown (1-1) at PSLA at Fowler (0-2), 4 p.m.: The Cyclones and Falcons kick off this week’s schedule on Thursday. Watertown is coming off a narrow 34-32 win over Nottingham. PSLA at Fowler lost week to Fulton, 50-32.

    Friday, September 20

    South Jefferson (1-0) at Central Valley Academy (1-1), 6:30 p.m.: The Spartans and Thunder do battle in a Class B crossover game. South Jeff routed Jamesville-DeWitt, 47-14, to open its season last week. CVA lost 40-13 to Westhill.

    Indian River (2-0) at Carthage (2-0), 7 p.m.: The game of the week will be between the Wolves and the Comets in Class B. Indian River downed Oneida, 52-13, last week. Carthage topped Chittenango, 59-33, last weekend.

    Bishop Ludden/SAS (0-2) at General Brown (2-0), 7 p.m.: The Gaelic Knights make the trip to Dexter to battle the Lions. Bishop Ludden/Syracuse Academy of Science is coming off a 34-18 defeat to Lowville. General Brown topped Cazenovia, 47-26, in a key Class C contest last week.

    Cazenovia (0-1) at Lowville (1-1), 7 p.m.: The Lakers are trying rebound from last week’s loss while the Red Raiders are trying to build off last week’s win. It’s first meeting between the schools in football since 2021.

    Morrisville-Eaton (1-0) at Thousand Islands (1-0), 7 p.m.: Both the Mavericks and Vikings started off their respective seasons with victories. M-E blanked Weedsport, 52-0, while TI edged South Lewis, 26-20, last Thursday.

    St. Lawrence Central (0-2) at Potsdam (2-0), 7 p.m.: The Larries look to get on track against the undefeated Sandstoners. SLC lost, 24-8, to Canton last week while Potsdam rolled past Malone, 46-14.

    OFA (1-0) at Malone (0-2), 7 p.m.: The Blue Devils enjoyed an off week while the Huskies are trying to get into the win column. OFA shut out Saranac Central, 26-0, in the season-opener. Both teams are in Class B in Section 10 this season.

    Massena (0-2) at Beekmantown (1-1), 7 p.m.: The Red Raiders try to get a “W” after losing the first two weeks. The Eagles try to keep momentum going after a 35-0 win over Saranac Central. Massena fell 28-16 to Gouverneur last week.

    Saturday, September 21

    Bishop Grimes (0-1) at South Lewis (0-1), noon: Both the Cobras and Falcons started off the season with setbacks. Tupper Lake beat Bishop Grimes last week, 28-16.

    Sandy Creek (1-0) at Beaver River (1-1), 1 p.m.: The Comets are looking to build off its season-opening win. However, the Beavers are hoping for a bounce-back week in this Section 3 Class D game. Sandy Creek topped Westmoreland/Oriskany, 54-12 while Beaver River lost to Dolgeville, 52-12.

    Gouverneur (1-0) at Canton (1-1), 1:30 p.m.: Both the Wildcats and Golden Bears earned wins last week. Gouverneur is in Class C in Section 10 while Canton is in Class B this season.

    Utica Notre Dame (0-2) at Tupper Lake (1-0), 2 p.m.: The Jugglers and Lumberjacks do battle in an 8-Man matchup. UND lost to Section 4’s Unatego, 24-6, last week.
