    Legendary SUNY Potsdam geology professor Frank Revetta passes away at 96

    POTSDAM, N.Y. (WWTI) – North country geologist Frank Revetta has passed away at the age of 96.

    Revetta passed away on Sunday, September 15.

    Do we still use the Richter Scale to measure earthquakes?

    He was a faculty member of the Geology Department at SUNY Potsdam for 50 years and According to his obituary , “he taught thousands of undergraduates, graduates, grade schoolers, retirees, and prisoners in earth science, geophysics, and astronomy.”

    Revetta ran and operated seismology stations across the area and became affectionately known locally as “the earthquake man.”

    He also gave numerous planetarium shows to anyone who wanted to listen and located ground water for anyone that needed it.

    Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 20th from 4 p.m. to 7p.m. at the Garner Funeral Service in Potsdam. His burial will be held on Saturday, September 21st at 10am at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam.
