    Fall Foliage Report: Thursday, September 19

    SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) – We are just a few days away from the start of the fall season, and the leaves are changing color across much of the Empire State!

    Below is the latest fall foliage report from I Love NY :

    Adirondacks

    In Essex County:

    • 20% foliage change at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington with brilliant orange, red and yellow leaves. 50% change is expected in the area surrounding the mountain, with mix of reds and purples.
    • 40% change in Newcomb with pops of bright orange, reds, and yellows.
    • 20% in Lake Placid , where bright reds are starting to pop in higher elevations, golden hues are showing in the village and around the lakes. The view from town looking at the mountains is beginning to show patches of seasonal color.
    • 10% transition in Crown Point with muted  gold tones, rust, and occasional sparks of dark red. Similarly, 10% in Ticonderoga , with yellows, oranges, reds, and purples.

    In Clinton County:

    • 25% change overall; foliage in the northern part of the county is more advanced than the southern parts.

    In Franklin County:

    • 50-55% change in the Tupper Lake and Mt. Arab areas with above average shades of apricot, tangerine, buttercup, canary, maize, rhubarb and cerise. The unseasonably warm days and cool nights are transitioning the leaves with vigor and intensity providing a panoramic foliage spectacle.
    • 40% change in Saranac Lake with an average to bright mix of yellow, and some brighter pops of orange and red.
    • 20% change in the Malone area, with bright red and orange leaves, along with some scattered yellows.

    In Hamilton County:

    • 50% color change in Lake Pleasant .
    • 30% transition in Long Lake , with muted yellows and oranges, and some occasional pockets of bright maple leaves.

    In Herkimer County:

    • 50% foliage change in Old Forge with bright splashes of copper and red among muted orange. Yellows are emerging, especially along roads and waterways.

    In Lewis County:

    • 25% change in the Lowville area with bright reds; some trees are still completely green.

    In St. Lawrence County:

    • Up to 60% change in Wanakena with average-to-bright red and orange leaves.

    In Warren County:

    • Up to 35% change in the Queensbury area, but just 10% in Lake George .

    Catskills

    In Delaware County:

    • 20-50% change in Delhi with a mix of reds, purples, and oranges.
    • 35% change in Colchester with pops of autumn colors.
    • 20% in Bloomville and Hamden with mostly orange and yellow leaves.

    In Greene County:

    • 30% transition in Catskill with many trees displaying bright yellows and oranges.
    • 25% in the upper elevations of the Windham area with red and yellow leaves.

    In Sullivan County:

    • 20% in Liberty highlighted by some beautiful pops of color. Similarly, 20% in Forestburgh with bright wisps of orange, red and yellow.

    In Ulster County:

    • 30% at Belleayre Mountain Ski Area in Highmount.

    Capital Region

    In Albany County:

    • 20% foliage change in Voorheesville at WildPlay Thacher at Thacher State Park with yellow, orange and brown leaves.
    • 10% change around Cohoes Falls in Cohoes, with yellow, yellow-green, and orange hues.

    In Fulton County:

    • 15-22% change in Northville with muted to bright autumnal shades.

    In Rensselaer County:

    • 15% change at Washington Park in Troy with increased gold and orange in the canopy. Some maples are beginning to show more advanced transition, but the harder woods are still predominantly green in the understory.
    • East of Troy , spotters predict 15-20% in the eastern and northern portions of the county, particularly in higher elevations, and 10-15% in the southern portions. Fall colors include deep red, light yellow, and orange.

    In Saratoga County:

    • 10% change at Saratoga Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, with mostly gold leaves accompanied by some bright shades of red.

    In Schenectady County:

    • 10% foliage change at Maple Ski Ridge in Schenectady with some yellow and orange.

    Central New York

    In Broome County:

    • 15% change in the Binghamton area with bright red leaves.

    In Chenango County:

    • 50% change in Norwich , Preston , and Oxford with bright orange leaves, as well as some caramel brown and a touch of red.

    In Herkimer County:

    • 15% change in Herkimer with touches of muted orange and yellow.

    In Madison County:

    • Up to 5% at Stone Quarry Art Park in Cazenovia.

    In Montgomery County:

    • Up to 5% change in the Fort Johnson area.

    In Oneida County:

    • Up to 25% leaf change in Utica with varying shades of red-orange and yellow leaves.

    In Otsego County:

    • 30% transition in Cherry Valley with average-to-bright pockets of yellow and red.
    • Up to 25% change in Cooperstown with red and orange leaves.

    In Schoharie County:

    • More than 15% change in Middleburgh with bright red leaves.

    Finger Lakes

    In Cayuga County:

    • Up to 25% change in Auburn with shades of yellow and red.

    In Chemung County:

    • 10% change in Elmira with yellow-orange leaves.

    In Cortland County:

    • 5% change in Cortland with muted touches of yellow.

    In Livingston County:

    • 5% change in Geneseo with some fall color just beginning to appear.

    In Monroe County:

    • 5-10% change in Rochester , with increasing sightings of olive and yellow leaves, along with hints of red-orange. In the city’s Brighton neighborhood, hints of red are appearing on the furthermost branches of maple trees.

    In Onondaga County:

    • 5% change at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville with early touches of red and yellow.
    • Up to 20% change at Syracuse University in Syracuse with a touch of yellow, and occasional reds from sugar maples.

    In Ontario County:

    • 5% change in Geneva and Seneca Lake with a few patches of muted burgundy and orange along with some yellow.
    • No significant change expected in East Bloomfield .

    In Schuyler County:

    • 5% change in Watkins Glen , Hector , Montour Falls , and Tyrone .

    In Seneca County:

    20% change in Waterloo with bright red and yellow leaves.

    In Steuben County:

    • 20% change in Corning , Hammondsport , and Hornell with very bright yellow, orange, and red leaves.

    In Tompkins County:

    • 15% change in Ithaca with bright pops of fall color, especially on the rolling hillside leading into the city on Routes 79 and 96.

    In Wayne County:

    • 10% change in Lyons with shades of yellow and dark red. The State Route 104 corridor near Lake Ontario is showing an increase in yellows and some orange when compared to areas further south.

    In Yates County:

    • Less than 5% change expected in Penn Yan .

    Hudson Valley

    In Columbia County:

    • 15% transition in Hudson with a bright variety of russets and yellows.

    In Dutchess County:

    • No significant foliage change expected in Beacon.
    • Less than 10% change in Poughkeepsie , with pops of yellows, browns, and reds.

    In Orange County:

    • Less than 5% foliage change is expected in Cornwall .
    • 15% foliage change in Newburgh with mostly yellow leaves.

    In Ulster County:

    • 25% change in Kingston with yellow leaves, along with a few shades of red.

    In Westchester County:

    • No significant foliage change is expected in White Plains , with trees still mostly green.

    No significant foliage change is expected in Cold Spring, in Putnam County, or in Rockland County around Bear Mountain .

    Greater Niagara

    In Erie County:

    • 10% foliage change in Buffalo with bright plums, red and gold emerging, especially in the treetops.
    • 5% change in East Aurora with early hints of yellow.

    In Genesee County:

    • 5% change in Batavia with a few shades of yellow and red.

    In Niagara County:

    • 10% change in Niagara Falls with some splashes of yellows and oranges.
    • No significant change expected in Lewiston .

    In Orleans County:

    • 5% change in Albion with some muted red and orange leaves.

    In Wyoming County:

    • 15% foliage change in Perry with a smattering of muted fall colors.

    Thousand Islands

    In Jefferson County:

    • 10% change in Alexandria Bay with some orange and yellow leaves.

    In Oswego County:

    • 20% average change across the county. Golden yellows are starting to emerge with the reds and plums in the northeastern portion, while muted shades of green dominate the county’s southwestern landscape.

    In St. Lawrence County:

    • Up to 25% foliage change in Massena , with muted yellow leaves.
    • 5-15% change in Ogdensburg with a mix of muted yellow leaves and some bright touches of red and purple, and 5% change in Canton .
