LANSING, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office was called to a shots fired incident at a residence on North Lansing School Road in the town of Lansing around 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, September 19.

Three residents allegedly had a dispute and one made threats and then fired a long gun, said the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the residents then fled and called 911. Deputies arrived and heard more gunshots, according to the sheriff’s office.

While searching the residence, deputies found the suspect’s long gun but did not find the suspect.

The suspect and the other resident were believed to have fled into the woods surrounding the residence, said the sheriff’s office.

New York State Police and the Ithaca Police Department helped search the area and used the New York State Police helicopter.

As the search continued, the decision was made to delay school for two hours for the Lansing School District to avoid students from being exposed to police activity while waiting for the bus, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect has been identified but has not been located at this time.
