BOONVILLE, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — An Evans Mills man faces domestic abuse charges after a Sunday incident at the Adirondack High School, according to Oneida County Sheriffs.

Deputies reported to the high school on Route 294 in the town of Boonville on Sunday, September 22. Upon further investigation, sheriffs determined that the suspect — 38-year-old Michael Scales of Evans Mills — was meeting the victim for a custodial exchange of three children.

Sheriffs found that during the exchange, Scales grabbed the victim’s hair and threw her on the ground. Sheriffs also determined that the incident happened in front of the three children.

The victim was evaluated on the scene by Boonville Ambulance. She was subsequently transported to Rome Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Sheriffs say that her injuries are non-life threatening.

Scales was arrested on the scene and transported to the Oneida County Sheriffs’ Office for processing. He is currently being held at the Oneida County Jail in Oriskany pending arraignment.

Scales is currently being charged with:

    • first-degree Criminal Contempt, a Class E Felony,
    • second-degree Harassment, a Violation, and
    • three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Oneida County Sheriffs were also assisted on the scene by the New York State Police.
