WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – The National Weather Service will be hosting a free Skywarn weather spotter class today at the Flower Memorial Library in Watertown.

The class will start at 5 p.m. today and will teach people about lake effect snow, storms, wind storms, proper snow and ice measuring.

It will also teach people how to report statistics to the NWS offices.

According to the NWS website, “by providing observations, SKYWARN spotters assist National Weather Service members in their warning decisions and enable the National Weather Service to fulfill its mission of protecting life and property.”

The weather service adds that spotters “are, and always will be, an indispensable part of the severe local warning program.”
