    DEC Rangers rescue Fort Drum pair in Lewis County

    TOWN OF PICKNEY, N.Y. (WWTI) – New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers assisted to people from Fort Drum over the weekend.

    Just after 5:20 p.m. Sunday, October 5, Lewis County Dispatch received a call from two hikers who advised they had been climbing down the edge of Inman Gulf and unable to climb up or down.

    Before the rangers arrived, the 23- and 24-year-olds from Fort Drum managed to make it to the bottom of the gorge.

    At 6:30 p.m., rangers reached the pair, gave them with food and water and hiked the pair out two miles to Whitesville Road.

    According to DEC officials, resources were cleared just before 8 p.m.
