SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — 58-year-old Anthony Munford has been arrested in connection with a dog who was dumped in a Syracuse trash can back on October 1, police say.

Syracuse Police Animal Cruelty Officers were sent to the 200 block of Burnet Avenue for a complaint of a dog being left in a trash can. When the officers got to the scene — just before 5 p.m. on October 1 — they found a dog inside of a plastic bag, inside the trash can.

The dog, a black poodle mix, was taken to a local veterinary hospital and is expected to fully recover.

According to Syracuse Police, after an investigation, they arrested Munford. He was charged with one count of Abandonment of an Animal, and four counts of Animal Cruelty, all misdemeanors.

He was given an appearance ticket to appear in court at a later date.

A Syracuse Police Department PIO said they are unsure of whether or not the dog is up for adoption at this time.
