DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The DeWitt Town Supervisor confirmed two water main breaks to NewsChannel 9.

On the evening of Oct. 9, a 10″ water main broke near Wide Waters Parkway and Bridge Street. The large pipe and relative elevations of the system caused the drain of the Orvilton and Genesee Hills neighborhoods. Water was restored by 10 p.m. that night.

However, a second break happened on Enterprise Parkway.

When NewsChannel 9 asked a DeWitt Water Dispatcher how many people were impacted he replied, “Probably hundreds.”

The Town Supervisor said that repairs are happening and water should be up and running by midday.

There is no need to boil your water if it’s back on, it is fully chlorinated. You just need to run it for a little while until any color runs out of it. You may see orange or brown come out, that is just old iron from the pipes, but it is not harmful. There is a chance of air bubbles too, according to the town supervisor.

We will update the story when we learn more.
