    State of emergency declared in Lowville; no unnecessary travel advisory lifted

    LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – More rain in Lewis County has caused a State of Emergency and a No Unnecessary Travel advisory in the Village of Lowville.

    The state of emergency was declared by Lowville Mayor Joseph Beagle that began at 5 a.m. today on Monday, August 19. This is due to a number of streets in the village are closed our are water-logged due to heavy rains this morning.

    According to the Lewis County Facebook post, there is a loader of sand and bags that anyone in need can fill. It is located on E. State St. at the sewage plant.

    Flood warning in effect until this afternoon in Jefferson and Lewis counties

    The travel alert came from the Lowville Village Police around 8:30 a.m. That alert was lifted just before 11:30 a.m.

    A Flood Warning is in effect for Jefferson and Lewis counties until 2 p.m. Lowville has been hit particularly hard this summer with several rain events.
