Son stabs mother to death, injures father in Wilmington attack, LAPD says
A 20-year-old man stabbed his mother to death and injured his father following an attack at their Wilmington home early Sunday morning, Los Angeles police said.The deadly stabbing happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the 900 block of N. Banning Boulevard, according to LAPD. Responding officers found two victims at the home suffering from stab wounds -- a 42-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man.Police located the 20-year-old suspect at the scene completely naked and took him into custody. He was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, LAPD said.Police believe the man stabbed his parents in their home overnight, killing his mother in the process and injuring his father, who was taken to the hospital in stable condition. LAPD says he is expected to survive.The woman died at the scene from her injuries.Authorities have not identified the suspect or victims.The motive for the deadly attack is unknown. Police are investigating whether the suspect was under the influence of drugs.
EB 10 Freeway reopens in Jefferson Park after violent crash kills 1, injures 6
Authorities have reopened all eastbound lanes of the 10 freeway in the Jefferson Park area of Los Angeles following a deadly and violent crash early Sunday morning.The California Highway Patrol says it initially responded to a solo vehicle crash on the 10 Freeway at Arlington Avenue at about 3:30 a.m. but soon other vehicles crashed at the scene creating a big pile-up of wrecked cars.One person was trapped inside their vehicle and died from their injuries, according to CHP.Another 6 people were transported to the hospital in various conditions.The crash forced all traffic lanes of the 10 Freeway to be shut down in the area for several hours. They reopened just before 6:30 a.m.No further details were immediately known. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Robbery suspect shot and killed by deputy in West Hollywood
A robbery suspect was shot and killed by a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy in a West Hollywood neighborhood Saturday.The shooting happened around 5:40 p.m. in the 1100 block of N. Gardener Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.The suspected robber died at a hospital after being shot. Detectives told Eyewitness News that the man was suspected of robbing a convenience store around the corner, but deputies caught up with him in the middle of N. Gardner Street - an area packed with apartments and homes.It's unclear what led up to the shooting.Authorities said a weapon was recovered at the scene.No deputies were hurt in the shooting. 4 brothers found safe after going missing in Palmdale nearly 3 weeks ago, authorities say
Four brothers between the ages of 2-5 years old have been found safe after they went missing in Palmdale nearly three weeks, authorities said Saturday.The children were found at a family member's home in California City and have been placed in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Palmdale station.Authorities said the children's parents were arrested on unrelated charges. Before the brothers went missing, the parents missed a court date which sparked DCFS to search for the children, authorities said.The four boys were previously last seen around 2 p.m. July 1 in the 800 block of East P-12, and investigators suspected at the time they were taken to Mojave, according to the Sheriff's Department.Deputies identified the siblings as 4-year-old Kase Brown, 4-year-old Kai Brown, 2-year-old Kay'den Brown and 5-year-old Koen Brown. Teen boys shot during attempted robbery at street takeover in South Los Angeles
Two 15-year-old boys were shot during an attempted robbery at a street takeover in South Los Angeles, police said.It happened around 2 a.m. Saturday near 54th Street and Western Avenue.According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the teens were in their car watching the street takeover when three suspects ran up to them and tried to rob them.When the teenagers drove off, one suspect opened fire and shot the boys, police said. The teens were rushed to the hospital but were not critically injured. Police said they're expected to survive.Three suspects fled the scene and remain at large. Police said all three were involved in the robbery attempt but only one was involved in the shooting.It's unclear if the suspects got away with any of the boys' belongings. 5 people injured after food truck explodes in Whittier
Five people were injured, two critically, after an apparent propane explosion and fire inside a food truck in Whittier.Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 9:16 a.m. to the 6700 block of Greenleaf Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.The food truck belongs to Lift, a popular coffee shop in the community that was operating out of the truck next to their brick-and-mortar storefront.According to a post on the coffee shop's Instagram account, the roof fell in at the building and the truck was being used to sell coffee and food while repairs were made.Footage from the scene showed one woman on a stretcher with a bandaged leg and a man in an ambulance with his arms and hands wrapped in bandages.The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but according to the county fire department, it appears to have been a propane explosion.The coffee shop has been a fixture on the corner of a quiet street with lots of foot traffic.It's unclear if those injured were employees or customers, or a combination of the two.The Whittier Police Department is investigating the incident.City News Service, Inc. contributed to this report.
