UCLA Film & Television Archive Announces Groundbreaking Queer Rhapsody Film Series
The UCLA Film & Television Archive presents Queer Rhapsody, a groundbreaking LGBTQIA+ film series featuring over 50 narrative and documentary films.This celebration will take place at five iconic venues in Los Angeles from July 19 to 28, offering joyful communal spaces for radical engagement."The power of art in community is at the heart of this series," said May Hong HaDuong, Director of the UCLA Film & Television Archive.Queer Rhapsody opens tomorrow with "Second Nature," a documentary debunking myths about female inferiority and queerness, narrated by Elliot Page.The series includes contemporary feature films, short-form experimental storytelling, vanguard documentaries, and international films, with screenings available from $9 to $15 and some at no cost."We are in a pivotal moment where connecting to celebrate the queer experience is essential," said Martine McDonald, Creative Director of Queer Rhapsody.Events will take place at the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, American Cinematheque at the Los Feliz 3 in Los Feliz, Eagle Theatre at Vidiots in Eagle Rock, Oculus Hall at The Broad in Downtown L.A., and Billy Wilder Theater at the Hammer Museum in WestwoodFor tickets and more information, visit queerrhapsodyfilmseries or UCLA Film & Television Archive.

A robbery suspect has been identified by authorities after emerging from a car while holding his 2-month-old daughter at the end of a high-speed chase through Los Angeles.Daiyaan Henderson, 21, was taken into custody without incident Wednesday on suspicion of kidnapping, child endangerment and felony evading, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. Four people were wounded in a shooting overnight Wednesday in Westlake, and three suspects were detained, authorities said.The shooting was reported at midnight near the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.The victims were identified only as three males and one female. Cow spotted roaming through Sylmar neighborhood in middle of the night
A cow caused quite a commotion early Thursday morning in a Sylmar neighborhood when it broke free and began roaming the streets.Residents spotted the animal around 3 a.m. near Gladstone and Fenton avenues and quickly reported it to authorities. The cow calmly wandered around for about two hours before it found its way home.Owner Lyn Camarillo said they use the cows to practice roping."It's very unusual for them to come anywhere out this way ... they have their own area up on top," she said.The cow wasn't injured.
