Though we still have more than 10 years to go until its possible grand opening—should all go as intended—we are happy to inform you about the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project, which calls for the completion of a new rail tunnel linking New York and New Jersey.

Officials said earlier this week that tens of billions of dollars in funding promised by the Biden-Harris government will help to advance the project.

Superstorm Sandy left damage to the 110-year-old tunnels linking the two states. They are to be renovated, and new, more contemporary paths are also planned to be built beside them. Once the bulk of the project is completed, there will be four tunnels overall for trains run by NJ Transit and Amtrak.

Starting The Excavating By The End of 2024 Or In Early 2025

NBC New York claims that equipment is now put up on West 30th Street in Manhattan, with significant excavating planned to start around the end of 2024 or early 2025. The New Jersey side of the tunnel's construction is probably going to take through 2027; the new train is expected to open by 2035.

However, an official press release says that the project includes many other design and infrastructure parts, such as making the rail system more resilient and safe for future extreme weather events, managing floods on both sides of the Hudson River, and making the area safer for first responders, maintenance workers, and the public, especially during an evacuation.

New Yorkers are known to be allergic to everything in New Jersey, but there's something about how easy travel is that makes us love these latest transit improvements.
