Two women in Manhattan killed each other and then killed themselves on Friday morning because of a custody fight.

Joseph Kenny, Chief of Detectives for the NYPD, stated that the incident occurred shortly before nine in the morning, close to 519 East 88th St. by Gracie Mansion in Yorkville.

Kathleen Leigh, 65, was found on the sidewalk, and Marisa Galloway, 45, was found on the road behind a parked Honda Civic. According to the cops, both of them were shot in the head.

The Weird Case of Murder-Suicide

According to Kenny, investigators think Leigh shot Galloway in the head and back as she was putting away a stroller in the car. Then Leigh gave herself a headshot.

Though hurried to the hospital, Galloway was not salvageable. Police say Leigh passed away at the scene.

According to Kenny, the event did not hurt the 1-year-old child who was riding in the backseat of the Honda.

Women Were Former In-Laws

The two ladies were supposedly former in-laws; according to people involved with the situation, the former mother-in-law killed her former daughter-in-law before taking her own life. Sources report the discovery of two guns: one concealed in a handbag and the other found at the scene.

Police searched the area for evidence on Friday morning. A witness reported hearing gunshots and screaming while tidying up outside and dialing 911.

Involved in A Custody

According to Kenny, authorities think the women were embroiled in a custody battle over Galloway's 4-year-old child. According to authorities, there have been two complaints and five instances of domestic incidents, but no arrests have ever taken place.

There were two firearms at the scene.
