Northeast Grocery, Inc., which owns Price Chopper/Market 32 and Tops Friendly Markets, has teamed up with New York State Industries for the Disabled to give more disabled people jobs in business administration.

At first, the partnership will create about 20 cleaning and mail fulfillment jobs at Northeast Grocery's offices in Schenectady and Buffalo.

The Workers Will Get Paid Well Enough To Support Their Families

The workers can work with others and get paid enough to compete. Both businesses have long been committed to hiring people with disabilities at their nearly 300 retail locations, and this program builds on that.

For a long time, our companies have been dedicated to the well-being of the places we live and work, said Mike Miller, executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Northeast Shared Services, the shared services group of Northeast Grocery, Inc. A big part of that is allowing everyone to go down career paths that make them more independent and help them grow personally and professionally. We are so happy to work with NYSID and take even bigger steps to help people with unique and different skills and points of view.

Businesses Want To Cooperate With People

The businesses are already looking into ways to make this relationship bigger.

This includes an online storefront for branded clothing that employees would see. People would run this storefront in the autism range.
