    Report: In July, New York State Gained 10,800 Jobs In The Private Sector

    Preliminary seasonally adjusted numbers provided Thursday by the state Department of Labor show that the number of private sector jobs in New York rose by 10,800, or 0.1%, over the month.

    In July, there were 8,401,600 private sector jobs in the state as a whole. The department said that the number of private sector jobs in the U.S. also increased by 0.1% in July.

    In July 2024, vector jobs (not corrected for seasonality) rose by 159,900, or 1.9%, over the previous year. This was more than the 1.4% rise in private-sector jobs in the U.S.


    Seasonally Adjusted Jobless Rate

    The state's seasonally adjusted jobless rate went up from 4.2% to 4.3% in July, while the seasonally adjusted number of people working in the state went up by 700.

    The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor conducts a payroll survey of New York businesses to determine the number of private sector jobs.

    In July, the unemployment rate across the state went up from 4.2% to 4.3%. The unemployment number in New York City went up from 4.8% to 5.0%.
