Health department trucks sprayed repellant around Manhattan at night to combat the insects.

According to city officials, more West Nile virus-carrying mosquitoes have been this summer, which will help stop transmission.

This summer, there have been six verified instances in the city thus far.

    The First Spraying Session

The city's first spraying session was scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. on Monday and last until 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

The health department's focus areas were the Upper East Side, Central Park, and Upper Manhattan.

According to the health department, although most West Nile virus cases do not exhibit symptoms, the illness can still be dangerous for people over 60 or those with compromised immune systems.

Headache, nausea, and fever are among the symptoms.

Spraying Will Start At 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday

On Wednesday at 8:30 p.m., workers in southwest Brooklyn will begin spraying.

Their targets will be the neighborhoods between 3rd Avenue and Ocean Parkway, 65th Street, Gravesend Bay, and Coney Island Beach.

Meanwhile, residents of New York say they are pleased that the city is taking action to halt the spread of illnesses carried by mosquitoes.
