On Thursday, the New York Police Department said that it is supporting a federal investigation into one of its officers.

The news came the day after the FBI inspected the residences of Sheena Wright, the first deputy mayor, and Phil Banks, the deputy mayor for public safety. Wright lives with David Banks, brother of local Education Chancellor Phil Banks.

On Thursday night, it was unclear what the nature of the inquiry and the purpose of the raids were. Furthermore, it was unclear how the raids and the NYPD inquiry were related.

The Department Indicates Its Full Cooperation With The Investigations

According to an NYPD statement, the department is fully cooperating with the investigation. The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York is investigating members of the armed forces, and the department is aware of it.

In the past, Mayor Eric Adams has stated that he is assisting the FBI in their investigation into the money raised for his mayoral race in 2021. It was unclear how the latest events related to that probe.

The Southern District of New York's spokeswoman declined to comment.
