Just before noon, at M.S. 391, the Angelo Patri Middle School in the Fordham neighborhood, police responded to a 911 call. The 33-year-old instructor was discovered inside his sixth-floor classroom, they claimed, adding that the bullet had only slightly injured his right palm. Officials said that no children were there at the time.

    Investigation of The Incident

Officials say they believe the bullet came from an "elevated surface." On nearby roofs, investigators are searching for ballistic and video evidence.

The teacher—whose name has not been disclosed—was released from St. Barnabas Hospital following treatment.

In preparation for Thursday's first day of classes, the NYPD is dispatching additional school safety officers to the location. Authorities are looking for help from the public to find the gunman.
