After a year-long corruption investigation, two now-retired FDNY leaders were taken into custody early on Monday morning, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

According to the sources, retired chiefs Anthony Saccavino and Brian Cordasco were both arrested at their homes in Manhattan and Staten Island, respectively.

Earlier in the year, the FBI had raided their residences and workplaces. At that time, the FDNY put the chiefs on modified duty. The headquarters of the FDNY was also searched by the New York City Department of Investigation.

According to the sources, the main focus of the probe was whether the chiefs accepted payments to hasten building inspections.

    The VIP Lane

A "VIP lane" was established by Saccavino and Cordasco in return for $190,000 in bribe payments, according to U.S. Attorney Damian Williams.

FBI Assistant Director James Dennehy stated that while there is no proof the plot jeopardized any building's safety, it "eroded the public's trust" and "tarnished" the FDNY.

    The City Hall List

The indictment claims that Cordasco voiced public complaints regarding a list of construction projects known as the "City Hall List" that FDNY inspectors ought to give priority to.

The allegations of corruption against the retiring chiefs started under a different mayor, according to Mayor Eric Adams, who is the subject of several corruption investigations, one of which involves expedited construction inspections.
