    Is Subway Crime 11% Down?

Following Mayor Eric Adams' decision to increase the number of uniformed police officers in the country's largest transit system, crime in New York City's subway system has been down 11% since 2019.

According to the New York Police Department, there were 1,120 reported crimes this year through July 14, down from 1,256 during the same period in 2019, the year before the coronavirus pandemic began. There were also fewer crimes this year than last year when there were 1,210 reported incidents during that timeframe.
