ABERDEEN — A Cecil County woman told Maryland Lottery officials she was stunned when she discovered she had a winning ticket in her hand worth $250,000.

The winner — who chose to remain anonymous — said she “nearly collapsed” after revealing the numbers on a Jumbo Cash scratch off ticket she had just purchased at the Wawa in Aberdeen. She said she always stops at that store on the way to work as a secretary for coffee and several scratch-off lottery tickets.

“I’ve always had luck with scratch tickets,” the secretary admitted, “but not big luck.” She added, “I’d daydream about a win like this, but never expected it to happen.”

Jumbo Cash is a $10 that tells the holder immediately if the ticket is a winner. There are five of these top prizes available from the game launched in April. Three are still out there said lottery officials.

The woman scratched the ticket while still inside the store.

“My legs all of a sudden got really weak. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to stay on my feet,” she said.

She called her husband right away, even though it meant waking him.

“He works nights, so he was asleep when I left,” she told officials. “After I was able to get through to him just how much we had won, he didn’t mind me waking him.”
