Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Store is coming to the Big Country.

The Oklahoma company plans to open three locations around Abilene.

Amanda Beuchaw, Braum's public relations director, confirmed locations will be built at 1327 N. Judge Ely Blvd. and 1600 Ambler Ave.

Another location is planned to be built on Antilley Road, but Braum's does not "have a permit yet, and the official address has not been assigned," Beuchaw stated in an email.

Construction has started for the location on Judge Ely Boulevard and is making steady progress toward completion.

"The store on Judge Ely will be the first completed store. We hope to be open there by the end of the year," Beuchaw, said.

According to the company website, the Braum's family started out in processing dairy products before opening the first restaurant and grocery store in Oklahoma City in 1968.

In 2018, the business celebrated 50 years of continued success being family-owned and operated.

Braum's has over 300 locations throughout Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Missouri and Arkansas.

The Judge Ely Boulevard location is being built across from Abilene Christian University. The Ambler Avenue location is planned to be built across the street from Walmart and nearby Hardin-Simmons University.
