ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – Lemonade stands have endured the test of time, providing the public with a bittersweet refreshment and teaching valuable life lessons to the youth during the summer.

The McMillin family held a lemonade stand to help their kids earn money and learn valuable lessons. Emilie McMillin told KTAB/KRBC that the biggest lessons she hopes her girls will learn from the stand are patience and resilience.

“They get their mindset to do something and get discouraged so easily. But just keep encouraging them, and they wanted to shut this down a couple of times a day, but every time they do, somebody else pulls out,” McMillin said.

McMillin’s daughters, Kyliee Blair and Harley Peetles, tried other money ventures earlier in the summer, but they did not work out, leading them to get discouraged.

“[Previously] we only made $5. it’s hard to make money by selling.  You have to be patient,” Blair said.

Her sister, Peetles, said the biggest thing she has learned throughout the experience is that hard work does pay off.

“If you work hard, people will come in. If you make your sign look good, people will come,” Peetles said. “We knew it was hot outside, and we thought of the drink that would be good for a hot, sunny day.”

Cody McMillin supported the girls as soon as he was approached with the idea, knowing the lessons that the girls would be learning.

“Just a good life lesson as them growing up. You know, if you go above and beyond, life tends to reward those who are patient and wait and like to show a little extra initiative, puts them ahead,” Cody said.
