ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – The community is invited to an Unaccompanied Veteran Burial for U.S. Marine Corps Private First Class (PFC) Bob Gilbert Wood at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.

Wood was born on October 2, 1941, and served from June 1960 to January 1965. For his service to our country, he was awarded the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal.

Wood is not expected to have any next of kin attend his burial, so the Texas Veterans Land Board has asked the community to attend and ensure this Veteran is not buried alone.

Wood will be honored with military accolades. If no immediate family is present at the burial, a representative from the Veterans Land Board will accept the United States flag on his behalf.

The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, located at 7457 West Lake Road in Abilene.
