CRAB's First River Days Festival
Annapolis, MD - On Saturday, July 20th, Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB) was one of three select sites to host the Anne Arundel County River Days Festival. The event was held in collaboration with Annapolis Sailing School and The Annapolis Maritime Museum. There are several other River Days planned by the county, but this was the only one with fully accessible water facilities and boats. The Naptown Brass Band performed at the event, and attendees enjoyed the food and beverages courtesy of Anne Arundel County Fire Department. During the event, CRAB took four groups out on Dream Catcher, and many others had the chance to learn to skipper the radio-controlled sailboats. The parents with children were very happy to see the CRAB ABC and everything it offers to the disabled community. When one of the little girls was asked if the power boat ride was one or two thumbs up? She responded enthusiastically, "It was 10 thumbs up!" That is what we like to hear!
Profar homers twice to lift San Diego to its 6th straight win, 6-4 over Baltimore
BALTIMORE (AP) — Jurickson Profar hit a pair of two-run homers, the second of which broke a ninth-inning tie, to send the San Diego Padres to their sixth straight victory, 6-4 over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. Profar’s two-out drive in the ninth was the latest stumble by Orioles closer Craig Kimbrel (6-3), who blew saves in two of his previous three appearances and was booed by the Baltimore crowd after his inning of work Friday. The Orioles had just scored two runs in the eighth to tie the game at 4 when Kimbrel came on. He allowed a one-out single and Profar’s 18th homer of the year. “Just trying to hit a line drive right there,” Profar said.
Orioles latest trade is a brutal result for the Yankees for more than one reason
The 2024 MLB trade deadline is approaching rather quickly. Trades have finally begun to pick up with a plethora of deals going down on the Thursday and Friday before July 30. The pitching market in general has been very hot. Teams are going after the guys that they want and they're likely overpaying for them at this point, specifically in terms of relievers. A few of the middle-tier relievers have been traded for some high-end prospects, really setting the table for the higher-end pitchers to go for quite a haul.

Nearly 4,000 of these individuals are in the D.C. area, as reported by Infinite Legacy, a nonprofit facilitating organ, tissue, and eye donations in Maryland, D.C., and Northern Virginia. The demand is most critical for those suffering from end-stage organ failure, particularly kidneys, with 86% of those on the waiting list in need of one. Tragically, every eight minutes, another person is added to the list, and 16 people die daily waiting for a transplant.

How DC-area shoppers can save some money in August
Virginia will hold a three-day sales tax holiday and Maryland will hold a similar one for a week, as local shoppers load their carts with back-to-school items. This year’s Virginia’s sales tax holiday, from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4, comes after state lawmakers forgot to renew the sales tax holiday during budget negotiations back in March 2023. That legislation expired so it could not be offered in August, as in previous years, when people are usually shopping for back-to-school items. But it was eventually held last October.
