What is a meteotsunami?
Difficult to predict, these short-lived storms with strong gusting winds are quite similar to earthquake-generated tsunamis. But what triggers them?. When intense storms move over open water, they can generate a wall of water known as a meteotsunami, an uncommon event that can cause damage along the coast of bodies of water.
4th of July forecast: Heat, storms could upend holiday plans
This Independence Day will be the busiest ever as nearly 71 million travel to celebrate with friends and family, but the weather could threaten some outdoor celebrations. The first week of July will be filled with festivals, fireworks, parades and backyard barbecues as people from coast to coast head outdoors to celebrate Independence Day, and AccuWeather meteorologists warn many will have to contend with sweltering heat or booming thunderstorms.
