IOWA CITY, Iowa — In Iowa City, Root for Trees is taking root -- for its fifth year -- starting on Thursday, August 1st. The program encourages both business owners -- and residents -- to apply for vouchers that can be used to purchase trees at a discounted rate.
Police arrest teen after Iowa mall shooting that left 2 people hurt
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Investigators arrested a teenager in connection with a shooting at an Iowa mall that left the teen and another person wounded and sent people running for safety, police said Tuesday. Police arrested a 16-year-old on several weapons charges after learning he had been taken by a private car to a hospital after the shooting Monday afternoon inside NorthPark Mall in Davenport, a city of 100,000 people located along the Mississippi River. The teen and another person shot at each other inside the mall, Davenport Police said in a news release. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening. The shooting prompted shoppers and workers to seek shelter inside store dressing rooms and elsewhere while others ran out of the mall.
City leaders break ground on new mixed-use development in downtown Ely
ELY, Iowa — A new mixed-use development is coming to the City of Ely. It's called "Main Street Legacy". City leaders broke ground Monday afternoon for the $7 million project. The project calls for both housing and storefronts on the corner of Dows Street and Main Street in the downtown area.
City of Dubuque seeking public input for Central Ave. and White St.
DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) - The City of Dubuque is asking for the public’s opinion in order to determine street design concepts for Central Ave. and White St. Officials say the input gathered through speaking to residents and through this online survey found here will be used to determine the preferred design concept. The survey outlines the pros and cons of each option and asks which design concept is preferred for Central Ave. and which design concept is preferred for White St.
Rock Rapids Residents Continue To Deal With Flooding Aftermath
Rock Rapids, Iowa — For the second time in about ten years, Rock Rapids residents are having to deal with the aftermath of major flooding. While the damage is much less than in the community of Rock Valley, about 20 miles downstream, the flooding in Rock Rapids was a record, and damaged a large number of homes, according to Mayor Jason Chase. Concert at amusement park to raise funds for Spencer flood victims
Managers of an Iowa Great Lakes amusement park have set a $50,000 for a benefit concert to help Spencer residents impacted by flooding. Jon Pausley is executive director of Arnolds Park, which is on the shore of West Lake Okoboji. “All of us in northwest Iowa got affected somehow by all of this floooding, but we were very fortunate here at Arnolds Park to really just have minor inconveniences as compared to many people down in Spencer who were just devastated,” he says, “and we certainly wanted to do something to help our neighbors to the south.”
