The Pleasantville football team fell to Interstate 35 in their season opener Friday night. The Trojans fell at home to the Roadrunners 27-14 in their first game of the season. Head Coach Mack Jorth said his team will look to clean some things up and work hard to prepare for next week.

The Indianola football team held on with a goal-line stand as time expired to defeat Urbandale 21-17 in their season opener Friday night as heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Indians fell behind after a defensive miscue led to a 75-yard Urbandale touchdown to trail 7-0 after the first quarter, but answered with a Jake Pontier four-yard run to tie the score at seven in the second. The J-Hawks snuck a 39-yard field goal near the end of the second quarter to lead 10-7 at half, then took advantage of another Indianola defensive miscue to score early in the third to lead 17-7. Indianola methodically drove down the field and scored on another Jake Pontier two-yard run to cut the lead to 17-14, then as time ticked over into the fourth quarter the Indianola defense stepped up to get a stop on fourth down. The Indianola offense took advantage with a one-yard Indianola touchdown run for the third time by Pontier to take their first lead 21-17, then had to stop Urbandale with just seconds remaining with the ball on the 1-yard line.

The first football game at Randy Wilson Track will go down as a loss for the Knoxville Panthers as Boone dominated from the start and won 42-6. The Toreadors scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters and built a 42-0 lead with the clock running. Knoxville did get one the board in the 4th quarter as Eli Fuller will become the answer to a trivia question of who caught the first touchdown pass at Randy Wilson Track as he hauled in a 27 yards strike from Roston McCarty. Coach Matt Dunkin told KNIA/KRLS Sports his team moved the ball at times, but Boone proved too tough.

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Storm men's cross country team earned a season-opening victory at the Bill Buxton Invitational on Friday evening, led by Cole Leggett and Miles Combs,. Leggett took home his highest finish in his career with a second place mark with a time of 19:30.5, dropping over seven seconds from his time at last year's Bill Buxton Invitational. Combs cracked the 20-minute mark with a time of 19:58.7 and finished fourth out of the 54 participants. James Johnson, Drew Engler, and Jack Cavan all finished in the top ten to lead Simpson to the team title with a score of 33 points.

The Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs have kicked off their volleyball season on a high note, with four straight victories against Valley, Ballard, Mason City and Greene County. The Knoxville Cross Country Squads waited a few extra days to get their seasons started and the boys won the Albia Invitational on Thursday also getting the individual winner as well with Isaac Rankin. Rankin’s debut race in 2024 was in a time of 16:40 nearly a minute ahead of the runner-up. Other Knoxville runners in the top ten were Connor Schultz in fourth in a time of 18:24…and Bradley Hembrook tenth in a time of 19:39. The Melcher-Dallas Volleyball Squad was pushed to the limit by Orient-Macksburg but survived the night with a 3-2 win over the Bulldogs in both teams season openers. Perry football kicked the season off last night against Des Moines Hoover. The opener saw points in bunches. The Bluejays started the party with a defensive score. Cerna-Gomez had a scoop and score on the first defensive play by Perry. He took the ball away and went 45 yards with it for the TD. The next drive wouldn’t be as good. The defense surrendered a 68 yard rush by Berry for the game tying touchdown. The Bluejay offense would began to click.
