GRANTS, NM – On Friday June 21, the City of Grants and other areas in Cibola County saw flash flooding due to heavy rainfall and damage to both public and private buildings, vehicles, and transportation roadways, because of this both the city and the county declared being in a State of Emergency and Disaster.
City Council Discusses Name Change of Santa Fe Avenue to Historic Route 66
GRANTS, NM –The City of Grants held their Regular City Council Meeting on June 26, at this meeting they approved to look further into changing the name of Santa Fe Avenue to Historic Route 66, an ordinance to allow for the municipal court to charge fees and establishing an affordable housing plan.

The City of Grants is excited to host a day full of festivities on July 4th, starting with a vibrant parade at 9 AM along Historic Route 66, followed by live entertainment and vendors at The Fire and Ice Park. As the sun sets, the community can look forward to the Annual Fireworks Display at the Old Grants Jail Grounds.
Softball Alumni Game Success
Former softball players suited up and dusted off their gloves and bats as they played an alumni game last weekend. The theme of the event, “Once a Pirate always a Pirate,” brought the former players, current players and fans together to reminisce and enjoy the sport of softball. That theme “Resonated deeply with all who participated and is a true sentiment that our school’s athletic legacy is shared by everyone who has ever put on that Pirate uniform,” said GHS head softball coach Victor Aldaz.

Dear Editor, The most recent hard rainstorm that we received on June 21st was a lot of water all at one time. The city of Grants spent millions of dollars on a new water pumping system to help pump out the overflow of water that floods first and second street for the last 70+ years. I have heard some individuals complain that the pumping system didn’t do its job and was a waste of money. Well, it’s not a waste of money, it can do the job it’s supposed to but not at this amount of water, 4.5 inches in a matter of 30 minutes.
